With a few days to go until the beginning of the first Grand Slam final, here’s everything you need to know about the opening match of the men’s and women’s tennis final.
The opening match between Serena Williams and Nadal is one of the biggest matches of the season, with both men’s players set to compete on their home turf for the first time in over two decades.
But, just like the men, the women will be looking to defend their titles at home.
The two-time Grand Slam champion has been training in California since June but has yet to play an official match in New York.
She had a one-match training camp with the team and is scheduled to take part in a practice match on Thursday, according to a press release.
In the women’s game, Nadal and Williams are both coming off two straight Grand Slam singles titles.
Nadal has won the Australian Open, while Williams has won eight titles at the US Open.
The pair is currently locked in a close battle for the No. 1 seed in the women’t tennis world rankings.
The first Grand Final between Serene Williams and Marin Cilic was a thrilling thriller with the defending champion winning the first set 5-4 6-3 in the third set of a thriller between the pair.
The crowd roared when Cilic beat the former Wimbledon champion in the fourth set.
The fourth-ranked Williams has been playing well since winning the Australian Opens, but her match against the No 1 seed will come against one of tennis’s elite.
Cilic is the No 2 seed and the No 4 player in the world.
The women’s final is set for Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden in New New York City.
The tennis world has been waiting for a Grand Slam match in Brooklyn since the women won the US Women’s Open title in 2013.
The event, which is a four-day affair, has been a highlight of the US tour this season and was followed by the final of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
The Grand Slam is held in two different cities, but the women have been playing in the city for two of the past three years.
The first round is on Tuesday in Manhattan, while the final on Thursday is at Madison Hall.
Williams, the No 3 seed in world tennis, has won five titles at Madison and won four in a row at the ATP World Tour Finals in Melbourne.
She is currently unbeaten in eight Grand Slams, with a 5-2 record.
She also won the women´s singles title in 2014, which was followed a year later by her maiden Grand Slam.
Cilic, who is No 1 in the men´s rankings, won the ATP Women´s Grand Slam in Paris in 2016.
The Serbian, who had a five-set win streak at Madison in 2017, lost in the second round of the final to Federer in the semifinals.
In recent years, Nadals and Williams have been the most dominant pair in tennis, and they are in the best form of their careers.
Both are a top four player in their respective categories and both have won a record 12 Grand Slam titles.
The rivalry between the two men is very much alive as the women are coming off a three-set, 6-4 win over Nadals in the first round of last year’s US Open quarterfinal.
