New York-based American Airlines will merge with Emirates Air Line to form the new global carrier, Bloomberg reported on Monday, citing a person familiar with the matter.
The merger will see American Airlines become a subsidiary of Emirates, the person said.
The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2019.
Bloomberg first reported the merger.
The New Yorker’s David Auerbach has previously said the merger would bring with it more American Airlines-branded flights, and would be completed by the end of the year.
The Times also reported last month that the merger was in the works.
The two airlines are based in Newark, New Jersey.
American Airlines and Emirates operate international routes and serve destinations including London, Dubai, Singapore and New York.
